Suspected bandits have attacked Abuja-Kaduna train, forcing the train to stop midway.
It was gathered that the bandits first attacked the train yesterday night and successfully immobilized it after struggling to move for 7 kilometer after the attack.
The bandits, according to sources, return again this morning, and planted explosive device on the rail track.
A staff of Nigerian Railway Corporation told our reporter on the condition of anonymity that the train came under heavy gunfire, but it struggled to stutter for about 7 kilometer and stopped as the gunshots damaged the fuel tank.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation has today confirmed that the rail tracks for the Kaduna to Abuja train services were blown up by explosives planted on the tracks by yet to be identified persons.
The managing director of the corporation, Fidet Okhiria, who spoke to newsmen explained that the explosives damaged the rail tracks.
In a related incident, the Nigeria Railway Corporation has suspended train services along the Abuja-Kaduna route.
The corporation took the decision after the vandalization of its rail track.
In a statement today on its website, the corporation said services had been suspended on Abuja-Kaduna route for the safety of passengers and crew members.
According to the corporation efforts were being put in place to ensure absolute safety along the route.
It added that further information concerning the suspension will be conveyed to the public shortly.
Meanwhile, the hundreds of passengers were stranded at Rigasa Railway station in Kaduna this morning.
