
Among many other people who were awarded honorary doctorate degrees at the annual honorary degree presentation by the Estam University, the notable public figure, Barr. Aliyu Wakili Boya was also a beneficiary of such award that took place in Cotonou, Benin Republic penultimate week.
The degree is often conferred as a way of honouring a distinguished visitor’s contributions to a specific field or to society in general.
Barr. Boya, who was a former local government administrator, an attorney, founded the Sarki Matasa Foundation, a private non-profit organisation, which focuses on empowering the Adamawa youths.
He was awarded the honorary doctorate degree for his selfless and humanitarian services toward nation building.
As the Sarki Matasa Adamawa, Barr Boya primary duty is to protect the interest of the youth through many initiatives.
Barr Boya said “sensitization and awareness campaign for young people to value themselves and give themselves respect they deserve through shunning drug abuse, hooliganism, redundancy and engaging in criminal activities is my priority.”
“Young people must get educated, because education is the master key that unlocks opportunities and brings enlightenment and empowerment. In regard to this, during my stewardship in the office and personal support, I have given many scholarships and educational support programs to young men and women and also engaged in revamping educational institutions both at basic and tertiary level.” He added.
Barr. Boya promised to sponsor mentorship as a key to continuity in engaging Adamawa youths to be productive through Sarki Matasa Foundation in collaboration with SDGs and other related NGOs to enrol young people in programmes by attaching apprentices to an already established SMEs and support them to train and absorb the trainees in their exonomic sector.
“In this era, government job is highly competitive and yeilds little reward or benefit. We have engaged youths in empowerment and capacity building programmes through skills aquisition and empowerment programmes to enable our youths participate as a driving force in the economic prosperity of our communities.” Barr. Boya said.
