The Abacha family has reacted to comments made by former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), about the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

In an interview with Arise TV, IBB described Abacha as “a problem” and accused him of plotting to overthrow him.

However, in a statement, the Abacha family described IBB’s comments as “baseless” and “unbecoming” of someone who once held the position of Head of State.

The family stated that IBB’s comments were an attempt to tarnish the image of the late Abacha and rewrite history.

They also accused IBB of being responsible for many of the problems Nigeria faced during his administration, including the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

The Abacha family called on IBB to apologize for his comments and to stop trying to tarnish the image of their late father.

“We are shocked and disappointed that General Babangida would resort to telling lies and spreading falsehoods about our late father, General Sani Abacha,” the family said.

“We challenge General Babangida to provide evidence to support his claims that our late father was planning to overthrow him.”

The family also stated that IBB’s comments were a distraction from the real issues facing Nigeria.

“We urge General Babangida to focus on the real issues facing our country rather than trying to rewrite history and tarnish the image of our late father,” the family said.

The Abacha family also expressed gratitude to those who have stood by them and defended their late father’s legacy.

“We are grateful to all those who have stood by us and defended our late father’s legacy against General Babangida’s baseless and unfounded claims,” the family said.

“We will continue to defend our late father’s legacy and ensure that his memory is not tarnished by those who are trying to rewrite history.”
