A non-governmental organization, YIAGA Africa, calls for free and fair elections in Saturday’s gubernatorial and senatorial elections in Kogi State.
In a pre-election press statement released by the organization’s communication officer, Moshood Isa on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State, said YIAGA Africa will be the only observer group that can independently determine if the official result announced reflects the total votes cast.
He warns that if the announced result is manipulated and does not match the result posted at the polling unit, the organization will expose it.
He expressed concern over security threats and violent attacks during the electioneering campaign and call on the security agencies to provide adequate security to not only neutralize the threats but ensure security is guaranteed for a peaceful conduct of the elections.
Isa further expresses concern over election irregularities such as vote-buying and logistics with the hope that proper measures will be put in place to address them.
He then calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, and relevant stakeholders to ensure hit-free elections.
