Students of Taraba state University Jalingo has expressed happiness over the decision by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Taraba State branch to call off the two-month old strike on Friday
Some of the students disclosed to SKY DAILY in jalingo on Friday 31st May, 2019 that they were happy to hear that the union had called off the strike and normal lectures will continue on June 3..
Marwan Gambo, a 300-level student of the University in an interview with SKY DAILY, said he was short of words to express his feelings over the new development.
“I personally describe ASUU’s decision as a welcome development, as students would now resume normal academic activities uninterrupted. I cannot express my joy since I heard the strike had been suspended because I was about to finish my semester examination when the lecturers commenced the strike.”
“I called on the State government to keep to the agreements reached between it and the lecturers in order not to disrupt academic activities in the university in future.”
Gambo further commended the union for the timely decision, adding that their wise decision would enable them complete their undergraduate studies and move to the next level.
A 200level student of Economics who simply gave her name as Mary said she pray the memorandum of understanding signed between ASUU and the state government will be honoured by both parties to enable students focus on their studies without any disruption.
Another student, Abubakar Suleiman Bente, advised the lecturers to always go for dialogue in resolving dispute rather than resorting to total strike.
“The state government should try as much as possible to keep to the promises made to the lecturers as that will go a long way in ensuring uninterrupted academic activities in the University.” He added.
