President Bola Tinubu has directed an immediate and comprehensive overhaul of national security strategies to end the escalating violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President made the declaration after a meeting with security chiefs at the State House in Abuja. “Enough is enough,” President Tinubu declared, condemning the senseless targeting of innocent Nigerians.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, said the President ordered a new approach to tackling the insecurity problems. Ribadu noted that President Tinubu was actively monitoring and giving instructions during his work visit to Paris and London. The NSA said the President highlighted the need to involve local councils and state governments more in tackling insecurity cases, emphasizing that security challenges often require community-level solutions.
The President directed that security agencies work more with governors to restore security in the country. “The issue of insecurity often is not just at the higher levels. It involves the subunits,” Ribadu said, adding that the President wants security agencies to collaborate with local governments and communities to address the root causes of insecurity. The NSA described the President as “very worried and concerned” about the situation, assuring that the government is working to restore peace and security.
Ribadu revealed that the attackers usually target innocent citizens by planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and targeting ungoverned areas. The government is committed to addressing the security challenges and restoring peace in the affected regions. With the President’s new directives, security agencies are expected to intensify their efforts to protect lives and property, and bring the perpetrators of violence to justice.
