The National Moon Sighting Committee under the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has said that there was no report of the sighting of the new moon of Muharram 1442 After Hijrah.
This means that today, Thursday is 30th Dhul-Hijjah, 1441 After Hijrah, while tomorrow, Friday automatically becomes 1st Muharram, the New Islamic Year of 1442 After Hijrah.
A member of the National Moon Sighting Committee, Sheik Salihu Muhammad Yakub, told this to newsmen, yesternight.
It was reported that Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, in a statement on Monday said that yesterday, Wednesday, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Muharram 1442 After Hijrah.
