PRP Accuses Bauchi Gov of Neglecting Education, Healthcare, Spends Billions in Security

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has criticized the state government for allegedly squandering N67.39 billion on security votes over the past four years.

In a statement, State Secretary Abdulazeez Haruna expressed concern that while this significant amount was reportedly spent on security, the combined capital expenditure on education and healthcare during the same period totaled only N47.79 billion.

“This revelation highlights the mismanagement and incompetence of the current administration,” said Haruna. “It’s particularly disturbing given that Bauchi State doesn’t face the same severe security challenges as states like Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina.”

The party argued that the spending on security votes is unjustified, considering the state’s lack of extraordinary security threats. “This is a scandal in the history of our state,” the party stated.

While Bauchi grapples with poverty, underdevelopment, and inadequate educational and healthcare infrastructure, a substantial portion of the budget is reportedly being misused on security votes with little visible impact, leaving citizens suffering.

The party demanded that the Bauchi State Government provide a detailed account of how the security vote funds were spent and explain why such a large sum was allocated to security when critical sectors like education and healthcare are underfunded.

“The people of Bauchi State deserve to know how their money is being managed,” the party said. “We cannot tolerate such wastefulness and mismanagement of public resources.”

The party called on all citizens to unite in demanding an end to this practice and ensure accountable and transparent governance in Bauchi State.
