In a move to revitalize the economy and reverse the brain drain, President Bola Tinubu has assured that Nigerian professionals who left the country in search of better opportunities will return as the economy improves.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Youth Conference Planning Committee in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized that human capital flight can be reversed by improving the economy, developing bottom-up policies, and deepening citizens’ collective sense of ownership.

The President expressed his commitment to strengthening the economy for the prosperity of Nigerian youths, who constitute over 60% of the population. “I want to reassure you that you are the hope of this country, and everything hangs on you,” he said.

President Tinubu also highlighted the ongoing economic reforms, which have repositioned the economy for greater prosperity and empowerment. He noted that most indicators show a steady fall in prices, especially foodstuffs, and a stabilization of the exchange rate.

The President encouraged the 44-member planning committee to develop the nation and make it prosperous. “You have a great opportunity, and I am ready to listen to you,” he said.

Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande thanked the President for giving the youths a voice and assured that the committee represents various stakeholders fairly.

The National Youth Conference is expected to focus on key areas, including:

  • Political Governance: Promoting inclusive and participatory governance
  • Economic Transformation: Fostering economic growth and development
  • Skills for the Future: Developing skills in emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence
  • Climate Change and Energy Transition: Addressing climate change and promoting sustainable energy
  • Social Cohesion and Security: Promoting social cohesion and national security

The conference will include virtual consultations, calls for memoranda, regional town hall meetings, and the Abuja conference.
