Police kill 2 bandits in Kaduna

The Police Command in Kaduna State says its operatives have killed two suspected bandits in Riheyi village within Fatika district of Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, made this known in a statement issued today in Kaduna.

Jalige said that yesterday at about 4.30 pm, the operatives of the Command intercepted some bandits around the village.

He said the incident happened while the operatives were on confidence-building patrol within the same district of Giwa Local Government Area.

Jalige said that the encounter which resulted in a heavy gun duel saw the police operatives having the last laugh.

Jalige said the state Commissioner of Police Mudassiru Abdullahi commended the officers for their display of professionalism and courage to achieve the desired result.

Meanwhile, many travelers are feared killed and scores kidnapped as bandit opened fire on travelers along the busy Kaduna to Zaria Road yesterday evening.

The attack occurred at Kofar Gayan on the outskirts of Zaria City.

The bandits struck around 8pm, shooting sporadically at vehicles in order to immobilize them and abduct the passengers.

Witnesses told newsmen that the attackers had taken many travelers into the bush before the arrival of security agents.
