A member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Umar Abdullahi, has criticized the party’s Governors Forum for declaring support for Sunday Ude-Okoye as secretary. Abdullahi claims this decision will exacerbate the crisis within the party.
The PDP Governors declared their support for Ude-Okoye based on the Court of Appeal’s judgment in Enugu. However, Senator Samuel Anyanwu possesses a stay of execution order from an Abuja Appeal Court and has appealed the judgment to the Supreme Court.
Abdullahi reacted to the Communique issued by the PDP Governors Forum, stating that the use of a communique to address a conflict within the party is inappropriate. He emphasized that the Governors should have employed internal conflict resolution mechanisms before making a public statement.
Furthermore, Abdullahi noted that the Governors appear to be exercising authority beyond their constitutional powers. He emphasized that their opinion cannot override the decision of a competent court or the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
Abdullahi also discussed the petition to the Inspector General of Police by Sen. Anyanwu, alleging that a group forged the PDP constitution/Electoral Guidelines, misleading the court in delivering judgment against him. Abdullahi considers this a serious criminal offense that the Governors should address.
In conclusion, Abdullahi urged the Governors to retrace their steps and ensure due diligence in resolving the crisis within the party.
