The removed minister of state for Housing, Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammas Gwarzo, has in an interview he granted to newsmen suggested that former Kano state Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Kano State, should be appointed to a ministerial position following his removal.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa service, Gwarzo explained that the reason for his removal was the need to allocate his ministerial seat to the central region of Kano, as there were already too many politicians from the Kano North Senatorial District in federal positions.

“If it’s true that the ministerial slot will be allocated to Kano Central, we have our 2023 gubernatorial candidate, who is also our leader in Kano Central. Why not consider giving him the slot?” Gwarzo said.

He added that Gawuna’s current position does not allow him to maintain financial support from his followers. “All his other colleagues who contested in other states were given positions, such as the candidate from Plateau and Zamfara states,” Gwarzo noted.

Gwarzo further stated that Gawuna should be offered the position first, unless he declines, in which case it could be given to someone else.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently reshuffled his cabinet, sacked five ministers, including Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, replacing him with Abdullahi Yusuf Atta, former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly.

It was also recalled that President Tinubu appointed Nasiru Gawuna as chairman of the governing council of Bayero University, Kano.
