Northwest Development Commission: Tinubu Sends Reviewed List of Nominees to Senate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a revised list to the Senate for the confirmation of members for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC). Additionally, he has nominated Hon. Emeka Atuma to serve as the chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

In a nomination list submitted to the Senate in late September 2024, President Tinubu put forward Ambassador Haruna Ginsau for the position of chairman of the NWDC board. He also appointed Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura and Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman to serve as board members.

The updated list has appointed Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi in place of the previous members, while Alh Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi has taken on the role of the new chairman.

Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji continues to hold the role of managing director and chief executive officer.

The initial list also includes other board members such as Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman.

Upon reviewing the President’s initial set of nominations, the Senate made modifications to the NWDC’s establishment act to ensure the inclusion of representatives from various geo-political regions.

President Tinubu has complied with the changes outlined in the revised list, appointing representatives for each of the six regions as follows: Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu, and

President Tinubu has also appointed Hon. Emeka Atuma to serve as Chairman, and Hon. Mark C. Okoye to take on the role of Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), pending their confirmation by the Senate.

Other members are Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu Ph.D, Nasiru Usman and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo.

The additional nominees are Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima and Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.
Prince Obinna Obiekweihe, Executive Director (Projects); Sen. Anthony O. Agbo, Executive Director, Finance and Administration; and Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja, Executive Director (Corporate Services), were also nominated.
