Nigerian security agencies have rescued 58 people kidnapped by armed bandits under the command of a leader known as Janbros.

The victims, comprising 35 males, 23 females, and children, were handed over to the Kaduna State government on Saturday.

The victims were reportedly abducted from their homes and farmlands in Gayam, Sabon Layi, and Kwaga villages of Dan Musa Local Government Area, Katsina State. During their captivity, they were forced to trek through the forests of Birnin Gwari.

At the handover ceremony, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, stated that no ransom was paid for the rescue.

“The operation succeeded through the cooperation of the presidency, security agencies, and the Kaduna State government,” Musa said, explaining the use of both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies.

Musa emphasized the need for collective action against insecurity. “The success depends on all of us working together. Certain individuals have been sabotaging efforts, but we remain committed,” he said.

He assured that efforts would continue until all captives are freed, adding, “We will not stop until every Nigerian in captivity is rescued.”

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, officially handed over the victims to the Chief of Defence Staff, who presented them to the Chief of Staff to the Kaduna Governor, Sani Limankila.

Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, provided details of the rescue operation conducted by troops of 1 Division.

“On November 14, around 3:00 PM, the troops conducted a joint operation that rescued the victims. Those needing medical care have recovered,” Laka said.

The Kaduna State government acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies and called for public support in addressing kidnapping and insecurity.

Gen. Musa pledged continued action against the perpetrators, stating, “We will ensure those responsible for shedding innocent blood face justice.”
