NNPP Crisis Deepens: Kawu, Rurum, Madakin Gini’s Absence Fuels Rumors of Rift with Kwankwaso

The absence of Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini from a meeting convened by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has fuelled rumours of a rift within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano.

The meeting, held at Kwankwaso’s Abuja residence, reportedly aimed to address the internal crisis rocking the party recently.

Notably, Madakin Gini has stopped wearing the red cap, a symbol of the Kwankwasiyya movement, and has been absent from key events, including unveiling the new NNPP logo, constitution, and flag.

Rurum and Kawu reportedly feel sidelined by Kwankwaso’s decisions, particularly in selecting local government chairmen and councillors. Their complaints have sparked speculation about their potential defection from the party due to differing views on the new Kano Emirate law and feelings of being marginalized in party decisions at the state level.

The noticeable absence of these lawmakers has begun to raise eyebrows among party supporters and loyalists.

Other NNPP members from Kano, such as Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga and Tijjani Abdulqadir Jobe, were sighted at the meeting.
