The proscribed Indigineous People Of Biafra IPOB has threatned to shutdown south east if their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not unconditionally released.

Chika Edoziem, head of IPOB’s Directorate of State give the warning on Thursday. Edoziem said, the Federal government have 11 days ultimatum to release Mr. Kanu or risk weekly lockdown of the South east.

“Directorate of State of IPOB, demands herewith an unconditional and immediate release of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on or before the 8th day of August 2021, failing which we shall commence a weekly Lockdown of Biafra land starting from 9th August, 2021.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, this total lockdown of Biafra land will take place every Monday until our leader is released unconditionally.

“This weekly lockdown is simply one of the measures we shall put in place to ensure that our leader is released hale and hearty,” the statement read.

Edoziem said that self-determination is not a crime and they did not commit any constitutional offense by demanding self-actualization from Nigerian state.

Mr. Kanu, the leader of IPOB, was intercepted and extradited to Nigeria by authorities this year after he jumped bail in 2017.

This threat came two days after IPOB killed a DPO in Imo state.
