The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with St. Kitts and Nevis to enhance food security and promote economic diversification.
During a courtesy visit by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Marine Resources, Small Business & Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, to Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari emphasized agriculture’s critical role in driving sustainable development for both nations and the broader Caribbean region.
The collaboration will focus on capacity building, knowledge transfer, boosting local agro-industry, and supplying raw materials, with Nigeria offering nutritious, organically produced food commodities, eco-friendly fertilizers, and investment opportunities in irrigation and agricultural technology.
Kyari expressed confidence in fostering a prosperous African-Caribbean partnership.
Hon. Samal Duggins echoed the commitment, stating the partnership would prioritize agricultural development, food security, and mutual growth, strengthening ties between the two nations.
Highlighting Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential, with over 80 million hectares of arable land and a sector contributing over 25% to GDP, Kyari noted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s significant investments in agriculture over the past two years.
He referenced a June 2025 state visit to St. Lucia, which sparked initiatives to strengthen African-Caribbean ties through agri-commerce and trade.
