The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved an increase in electricity tariff by the 11 Electricity Distribution Companies in the country.
News Agency of Nigeria reports the directive of the new tariff regime for different companies and category of customers, was published on the commission’s website.
The directive was signed by the commission’s Chairman, Professor James Momoh and Secretary, Mr. Dafe Akpedeye.
The commission said that the order super-ceded the earlier one issued on the subject matter, and the new tariff regime takes effect from January 1, 2020.
The commission noted that the order had taken into consideration, other actual changes in relevant macroeconomic variables and available generation capacity as of October 31, 2019.
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission said that the customers are now to pay 19.89 naira more per unit representing a 236.75 percent increase.
