The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has sued President Muhammadu Buhari over the extension of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The association commenced the legal action at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.

The defendants in the suit include the President, the IGP and the Police Service Commission.

In the suit, the NBA seeks the judicial determination of the constitutionality of the President’s extension of Adamu’s tenure as the Inspector General of Police for three months after Adamu had on February 1, 2021, attained the 35 years of age of service as a member of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement today, NBA President, Olumide Akpata, said the extension was unconstitutional and the Nigerian Bar Association will continue to confront lawlessness in any form.
