The Minister of Information and National Orientation has expressed support for the decision of the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, to formally report Badegi FM to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over allegations of unethical broadcasting and incitement.

Recently, Governor Umaro Bago had directed that operations should be suspended at the Badegi FM, a radio station in Minna.

In a statement, the Minister acknowledged valid concerns over broadcast ethics but clarified that the power to suspend broadcasting licenses lies solely with the NBC, as established by law.

He called on all parties to remain calm and allow the NBC to carry out its role, assuring Nigerians that the Commission has the necessary structures in place to handle the matter fairly and impartially.

The directive to suspend Badegi FM was reportedly issued by the Governor during an APC Caucus meeting in Minna on August 1, following concerns about the station’s content.
