Suleiman Abubakar Gummi, the son of a popular Islamic cleric, late Abubakar Mahmoud Gummi, has won the seat of House of Representatives for Gummi/Bukkuyun Federal Constituency in the state following the ruling of the apex court on Friday 24th May, 2019 which nullified all votes cast in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failure to conduct proper party primaries.
Gumi, who contested on the platform of the People Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, was roundly defeated by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Bukkuyum Unaru Jibo.
Our source reveals that Gumi was actually in Zamfara from his Kaduna base for a private visit when his friends prevailed on him to pick PDP’s nomination form for Gummi/Bukkuyun Federal constituency in the 2019 general elections.
“In Zamfara political equation if you’re not from Yerima’s dynasty you won’t win any electoral seat. That is why opposition parties like PDP found it difficult to attract aspirants to buy their party nomination forms”
“Gumi hesitatingly accepted to represent PDP on the ballot but he didn’t campaign at all because of zero hope of winning. Infact he returned back his residence at Kaduna only to be called that he’s now member-elect of House of the Representatives.” The source said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed Monday 27th May for Issuance of certificates of return to the winners with PDP candidates winning all but one level of elective positions in Zamfara state.
Hon. Kabiru Hashimu of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) won a seat for Maru South in the state House of Assembly, making him the only winner from a party apart from PDP in the state.
