Murtala Abdullahi koko has been elected President of the Foreign Service Academy Lagos under Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The election took place on Friday 23rd August, 2019 where Mr. Abdullahi emerged President unopposed.
The Regular Course of the Foreign Service Academy (Academy) was established under the instrument of a President-in-Council Memo of 16th August, 1981.
The Academy became functional on 11th January, 1983, and was initially located on the premises of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign affairs at 23 Marina Lagos. It was later moved to its present permanent location on the Lagos/Badagry Expressway in May, 2003.
Prior to the commencement of the Regular Course of the Foreign Service Academy in 1983, induction courses were organized for new recruits into the Ministry. Upon establishment of the Academy, it was charged with the responsibility of training Nigerian Foreign Service officers with the principal focus on capacity building.
The present location along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, though not purpose-built is well located and in an academic environment congenial to academic pursuit as it is surrounded by many academic institutions.
The Foreign Service Academy has graduated about 2000 student-officers since inception which included diplomats from other African countries.
The new president-elect, Abdullahi Koko, is an indigene of Kebbi state.
