Kano state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has restated the commitment of his administration to continue partnering with stakeholders in the security sector in ensuring the state is safe and peaceful adding that Kano is holistic on Community Policing.
Represented by his deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Ganduje made the statement at the North-west zone One day Mass Sensitization Workshop for the members of the public on community policing organised by the Nigeria Police Force held at the Government House, Kano.
He said since coming on board in 2015 his administration has been engaging security agencies and leadership of the traditional institutions to proffer solutions towards protection of lives and properties of people of the state.
“Community policing project is our own…infact one of the essence our government created new emirates in the State is to expand the scope of community participation in the handling of security matters Ganduje said”.
He added that in 2020 the State community policing advisory committee was inaugurated under the Chairmanship of the Emir Of Kano while a community policing awareness campaign was also held in the State all as part of effort of enhancing community policing strategy.
Speaking earlier the Inspector General Of Police,Muhammad Adamu represented by the Assistant Inspector General Of Police in charge of zone 1 Sadiq Bello mentioned that the philosophy behind the introduction of community policing is to provide closer and friendly contact between the police and members of the community in order to enhance the security and safety of the community.
He further said plans have been rolled out for the engagement and utilisation of Special Constabulary in the implementation of community oriented policing framework for the establishment of partnership in the community and society in general.
The IGP also urged the public that given the prevalence security situation in the country,matters of crime and security should not be left to the police alone therefore there is need for the adoption of broad based community engagement partnership,multi agency collaboration and collective effort in crime management.
In his remark,the Emir Of Karaye Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II called on the public to join hands with the security agencies and traditional institutions in ensuring the success of the programme.
