
The Kano State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat thuggery and related crimes in Kano Metropolis.
According to a press statement issued by DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, the Command conducted a clearance operation in criminal hideouts in some parts of Kano Metropolis, including Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.
The three-day operation, which took place between Friday, June 13th, and Sunday, June 15th, 2025, led to the arrest of 51 suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The suspects arrested include Ayuba Zakariyya, alias Shamakin, 24 years old, of Sheka Bayan Makaranta, and Aliyu Usaini, alias Aliko, 23 years old, of Sheka Sabuwar Abuja, among others.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has warned against brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including “Gangi,” as well as displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms.
“The Command urges parents and guardians to monitor their children/wards’ activities and report any suspicious behavior as anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he stated.
CP Bakori further warned that parents who conspire with their children/wards to keep such dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such for them will be investigated as well.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation in maintaining peace and security in Kano State,” he added.

The operation is part of the Command’s intelligence-led offensives against thuggery in Kano Metropolis, and it demonstrates the Command’s commitment to tackling thuggery and related crimes in the state.
