
Kano, Nigeria – April 2, 2025 – The Kano State Police Command has inaugurated an 8-man Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to investigate the violence that erupted during the Emir Sanusi Lamido II’s entourage after Eid prayers on March 30, 2025.
The incident resulted in the death of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member, and injured Aminu Suleman, who is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital Kano.
According to Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the panel’s terms of reference will focus on uncovering the remote and immediate causes of the violence and any defiance to the Command’s ban on Durbar/Horse-riding activities throughout the Sallah Celebration.
The police had earlier arrested two suspects, Usman Sagiru and Nasir Idris, in connection with the incident. The Command has also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation following alleged defiance on the Durbar ban.
The Kano State Police Command reiterates its ban on all forms of Durbar and warns that anyone found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively. The Command also vows to tackle thuggery (Daba) activities and ensure that anyone engaging in acts that may cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and public order faces the law.
The Special Investigation Panel is tasked with expediting action to ensure justice is served, and anyone found culpable faces the full wrath of the law.
This development comes after the Kano State Police Command announced a ban on Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order ยน.
