Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced the commencement of Ramadan Feeding Programme to support the less privileged in Kano state.
Governor Yusuf made this disclosure during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of 1,250 cartons of dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Saudi Consul-General in Kano, His Excellency Khalil Ahmad Adamawi, for the generous donation, noting that this marks the fourth time the Kingdom has extended such support.
He emphasized that the donation comes at a critical time, as his administration continues to make concerted efforts to provide food assistance to the less privileged amid the current economic challenges.
Governor Yusuf reiterated that Kano remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria, attracting an influx of people, which in turn places additional pressure on government resources, especially in healthcare and infrastructure.
“Your Excellency, this year’s Ramadan comes at a very difficult time when Kano State stands as the only oasis of peace in Northern Nigeria. The resulting pressure on the government, the people, and our infrastructure is enormous,” he noted.
The Governor also appealed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the state by building a psychiatric hospital and renovating the displaced children’s camp, aimed at improving the well-being of these vulnerable groups.
He further expressed satisfaction with the longstanding cordial relationship between the Kingdom and the people of Kano State, assuring continued collaboration for mutual benefit.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, described Saudi Arabia as a pillar of global humanitarian efforts and commended the Kingdom for its continued support to the people of Kano State.
Speaking on behalf of the Saudi Arabian government, Consul-General Khalil Ahmad Adamawi reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to Kano State. He also praised Governor Yusuf’s administration for its transformative projects in health, education, and infrastructure development.
During the event, cartons of dates were distributed to associations of persons with disabilities, Islamic clerics, and other vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has called on the business community to lower the prices of essential commodities to enable Muslims to fully observe Ramadan, both physically and spiritually.
In his Ramadan message to the people of Kano, the Governor urged residents to support one another, particularly relatives and the less privileged, highlighting the significance of charitable feeding during the holy month.
He further urged citizens to live peacefully and dedicate themselves to worship and supplication, praying for continued blessings and prosperity for the state.
