Kano Government, North-West Development Commission Strengthen Partnership

In a significant move to foster development in the North-West region, the Kano State Government has allocated a 1.9-hectare plot of land, valued at N3 billion, to the North-West Development Commission (NWDC) for its permanent headquarters ¹ ².

During a courtesy visit on March 13, 2025, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the NWDC, praising the decision to locate the commission’s headquarters in Kano ³. The governor emphasized the commission’s timely arrival, given the region’s pressing security and economic concerns.

“Your commission is arriving at a critical time when our region faces enormous security and economic challenges. We must work together to improve infrastructure, education, human capital development, and economic empowerment,” Governor Yusuf stated.

NWDC Board Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi Yakawada, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting Kano State and the entire North-West region in tackling socio-economic challenges. He presented a letter of request to the governor, soliciting support for office and other essential services for a smooth take-off.

The land grant letter was officially handed over to Chairman Yakawada, marking a significant milestone for the NWDC’s operational expansion. Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, NWDC’s Managing Director/CEO, expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to utilizing the space effectively for developmental initiatives.

“This land represents a foundation for progress, a step toward a brighter future for Kano and the entire Northwest. We are committed to ensuring that this initiative brings meaningful development that will benefit our people for generations to come,” Prof. Ma’aji stated.

With the formal handover of the land grant completed, the NWDC is set to commence planning for its permanent headquarters and other strategic interventions in infrastructure, economic empowerment, and social welfare.
