Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has directed all 44 local government chairmen in the state to remain in their respective LGAs and address any challenges that may arise in order to manage their affairs effectively.2

Speaking at the opening of a workshop for local government chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and secretaries, Gwarzo, who also holds the position of Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, discussed the importance of leadership and accountability.

The workshop, organized by the Ministry for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), focused on “Leadership and Professional Ethics.” It aimed to equip local government administrators with the necessary knowledge and tools to make decisions based on integrity.

Gwarzo reminded participants that local governments are key to democracy, and their decisions directly affect their communities, the state, and the country.

He urged the chairmen to share knowledge and adopt practices that could improve governance at the local level.

Gwarzo also expressed his commitment to supporting the development of all 44 LGAs in Kano State and acknowledged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s focus on human capital development at the local government level.

Chief Dr. Yomi Charles, Project Consultant from ASCON, outlined the workshop’s focus on “Conflict Management” and “Qualities of a Leader.” He noted that conflict is an unavoidable part of administration and encouraged leaders to develop skills to manage disputes and maintain transparency and accountability.

Zubairu Hamza Masu, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, spoke about the workshop and, on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, called for similar workshops to include House members and local government chairmen.

During the event, Dr. Mani Tsoho, Chairman of Gwarzo LGA, thanked the Ministry and consultants for addressing conflict resolution.

Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, Chairman of Tudun Wada LGA, shared that she had gained knowledge on securing and applying for development projects to benefit her community.
