In view of the curfew imposed in Kaduna state by the state government over crisis, the Health4All Media Initiative (HAMI) has urged residents to guard against unplanned pregnancies.

HAMI in a press statement issued Saturday in Kaduna and signed by its Secretary, Sola Ojo said the call is informed by the fact that due to the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government, there is the natural possibility of increase in sexual activities amongst both the married and unmarried.

He however urged all men, women who are sexually active, be they married or unmarried to please consider the use of family planning commodities that suit them saying, “This is to forestall the ripple effects of having unplanned pregnancies which plays a huge role in the reason why the state finds itself in an unpleasant situation today.”

He noted that the benefits of the family planning range from not only the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and unsafe abortions but also to guide against unplanned pregnancies that can ultimately lead to uncared-for-children as evident in the number of street urchins, vagrants and young drug addicts seen on streets today.

HAMI is a group of media practitioners advocating for improved healthcare delivery in Nigeria in furtherance of Nigeria attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
