Jigawa state Government has spent over one billion 438 million naira as Covid-19 expenditure last year on the award of contracts to micro, small and medium enterprises, purchase of palliative materials, supply of drugs and medical equipment to cushion the effect of Covid–19 pandemic.
Representative of the state ministry of finance Alhaji Haruna Danlami stated this in his presentation at a 2-day sensitization workshop on emergency procurement under Covid–19, organized for small and medium enterprises at Maimuna Millennium Park, Hadejia.
He said most of the state ministries and agencies have budget balances to cater for the second phase of the Covid-19 emergency procurement intervention program.
Also speaking, the state commissioner of education science and technology, Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo said the ministry will engage two hundred micro, small and medium enterprises in the purchase and supply of educational materials.
Meanwhile, Jigawa State Consumer Protection Board has arrested four persons at Hadejia Market for allegedly mixing sand and water in 37 bags of potash.
The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah Mallam Madori, made the announcement in a press statement sent to newsmen.
He said the people were found guilty of mixing sand, water and potash drying it and when it dried up, they put it in sacks and took it to market.
Farouk Abdallah said they have already handed them over to the mobile court to reap what they have sown.
The court sent them to a correctional facility for a week, after which they were returned and sentenced to 10 months imprisonment or the option of paying a fine of 80 thousand naira each and confiscating the bags.
The men included Kawu Muhammad, Babangida Muhammad, Usman Muhammad and Danladi Mai Kanwa.
