Independant National Electoral Commission, INEC, disclosed that 5 weeks into opening of its online pre-registration of voters, 3 million Nigerians have already registered.
This was disclosed by Chairman of the INEC Information and Voters Education Committee Mr. Festus Okoye today in Abuja.
“As at 4pm on Tuesday 3rd August 2021, the number of fresh online pre-registrants is now 1,377,733 while 120,600 citizens have completed their physical registration since the exercise commenced on Monday 26th July 2021.” Mr. Okoye revealed.
The age distribution of registrants according to Okoye has shown young Nigerians between the age of 18 and 34 have the highest number of registrants with 65% enrolled online pre-registration and 70% who had completed physically the registration.
The statistics on gender distribution, Okoye said “ For gender distribution, 940,062 (or 57 percent) are male and 717,504 (or 43 percent) are female for online pre-registration while the figures for completed registration are 72,075 (or 60 percent) male and 48,525 (or 40 percent) female,”
He finally urged all eligible Nigerians to use the opportunity and register either by initiating online or physically at their respective Local Government INEC offices.
