The house Representatives Present Legislation to Raise Membership from 360 to 366.

A proposal has been presented in the House of Representatives to amend Section 49 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic (as amended). This bill seeks to reserve six special seats specifically for women and individuals with disabilities.

Titled “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Sixth Alteration) (Six Special Seats for Special Interest Groups) Bill, 2024 (HB.1811),” this bill was introduced for its initial reading during the plenary session on Wednesday.

Put forward by House Spokesman Akintunde Rotimi (Ekiti, APC), the suggested amendment aims to raise the total number of representatives in the House from 360 to 366. Notably, the six new seats will be dedicated to women and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
