The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in the just concluded Edo State Governorship Election.

The House also congratulates the APC Deputy Governorship candidate, Rep. Dennis Idahosa, who serves as the lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services in the 10th Assembly.

This follows the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration on Sunday, confirming the APC as the winner of this closely contested gubernatorial election.

Speaking on behalf of the House, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, praised both the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect, who are current members of the 10th National Assembly, emphasising that their victory reflects the will of the Edo people.

“Edo people have spoken with their votes,” reflecting their desire for positive change and progress. The Speaker further lauded the election of the deputy governor-elect, Rep. Idahosa, a sitting member of the House, noting that this victory highlights the increasing role of parliamentarians in shaping governance and politics across Nigeria.

Speaker Abbas in his congratulatory message, urged Senator Okpebholo and Rep. Idahosa to work together to serve the common good of the people of Edo State. He emphasised that the duo should “remain good ambassadors of the National Assembly,” using their new positions to champion policies that will benefit the people and foster development in the state.

As the newly elected leaders prepare to assume office, the House calls for magnanimity in victory. Speaker Abbas urged Senator Okpebholo and Rep. Idahosa to extend a hand of fellowship to their opponents, fostering unity and peace in Edo State. He also urged the people of Edo to remain calm and respect the democratic outcome, which reflects the collective decision of the majority.

The House of Representatives remains committed to promoting democracy and good governance and looks forward to the positive contributions of Senator Okpebholo and Rep. Idahosa in their new roles.
