Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has restated his administration’s firm commitment to empowering young people through sustainable job creation, skills development, and decisive action against drug abuse, as the world marks International Youth Day 2025.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf underscored the central role of youths in the socio-economic transformation of Kano State, noting that his government has implemented far-reaching programmes to equip them with the skills, opportunities, and support needed to succeed.
He said the reopening of the state’s skills acquisition institutions across various sectors has already placed thousands of young people on the path to self-reliance.
He further disclosed that direct employment opportunities have been created in strategic sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and public works.
Governor Yusuf also announced plans to reopen the Kiru Reformatory Centre as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate young offenders, particularly those affected by drug abuse back into society as productive citizens.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Governor cited the establishment of the Kano State KASITDA and the successful hosting of the International Conference on Technology and Computing both designed to position Kano as a hub for innovation and digital skills development.
“On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the resilience, creativity, and potential of our young people. My government will continue to invest in their future through job creation, education, technology, and a resolute fight against the scourge of drugs,” Governor Yusuf affirmed.
He called on community leaders, educators, parents, the private sector, and other stakeholders to join hands in creating a safe, inclusive, and prosperous environment where the youth of Kano can fully realise their dreams.
