Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to traditional rulers to collaborate with the government and security agencies to ensure peace and maximum security in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
During a Ramadan Breakfast (Iftar) with Emirs and their council members from the 5 Emirates councils of the state, the governor emphasized the crucial role of traditional rulers in upholding peace and security in their respective domains, highlighting the significance of their involvement in this vital aspect.
Governor Yusuf lamented the decline of the traditional institutions’ practice of maintaining comprehensive statistics of their subjects, which previously facilitated effective monitoring of movements within their territories by both locals and outsiders.
He underscored the importance of reviving this practice to enhance societal monitoring and security measures, further mentioning his administration’s plans to conduct house numbering exercises to accurately determine household populations for appropriate infrastructure planning and security management.
Additionally, Governor Yusuf urged traditional rulers to intensify their prayers for the state and the nation as a whole, reassuring them of his administration’s unwavering support to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities diligently.
In response, the Emirs of Rano, Alhaji Kabir Muhammad Inuwa, Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, and Karaye, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the governor’s hospitality during the Ramadan breakfast and pledged their full backing for policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing security and fostering peaceful coexistence among the state’s populace.
