
Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has donated N30 million to his former school, Kauran Gwandu Model School, during a special reunion hosted by the school’s Old Boys on Wednesday.
Addressing his former classmates, Governor Idris reflected on their shared school days, noting that none of them could have foreseen that one of their own would one day lead the state.
“This is providence—God has predestined that a product of this school would occupy the highest office in Kebbi State,” he remarked.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education, Governor Idris highlighted his initiatives to enhance learning opportunities for students.
“My government is committed to providing free education, covering tuition, registration, and examination fees. We also provide upkeep and accommodation allowances to support students,” he stated.
He further disclosed that funding for school feeding had been increased from N175 million to N300 million to ensure students receive quality meals.
Additionally, his administration has constructed 333 new schools and rehabilitated 1,816 existing structures, equipping them with necessary teaching and learning materials.
As a gesture of gratitude, the governor announced a donation of N10 million to his former classmates and another N20 million to the current male and female students of the school.
Governor Idris also revealed that his administration would distribute 350 truckload of assorted grains to residents as part of the Ramadan feeding program starting Thursday.
Expressing appreciation for his classmates’ support during the 2023 elections, he urged the people of Kebbi to continue supporting the APC to sustain the dividends of democracy.
Speaking on behalf of the Old Boys, former State NLC Chairman Comrade Umar Halidu and Hajiya Halima Udu praised Governor Idris for his unwavering commitment to education.
Comrade Halidu acknowledged the governor’s significant contributions, stating, “Seventy percent of the structures in this school were built under his leadership. His commitment to free food distribution and agricultural support is commendable.”
Hajiya Halima Udu expressed excitement over the reunion and announced plans by a former classmate to compile a profile and photographs of all former students, including the governor, to strengthen their bond.
At the event , Abubakar Bagudu, ABK,
the Author of ‘Mr. Project” on the Governor’s development strides, donated a car to Malam Shehu Malami, one of the surviving teachers during the school days of the Governor.
