Former President Goodluck Jonathan says the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a major reason why his administration couldn’t implement the report of the 2014 National Conference.

Jonathan spoke on Thursday at the public presentation of a book titled “The National Conversation” edited by Akpandem James and Sam Akpe.

The former president said the party’s internal crisis hindered the implementation of the conference’s recommendations before he left office in 2015.

“We were in the process of implementing the report, but the crisis in the PDP delayed it,” he said.

Jonathan also acknowledged the role of key leaders in the party, stating that without their support, the national conference wouldn’t have been possible.

“Without the support of key leaders like Obasanjo, Babangida, Danjuma, and others, the conference wouldn’t have held,” he said.

Jonathan’s administration had in 2014 convened the national conference as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s socio-political and economic challenges.

The conference made over 600 recommendations aimed at promoting national unity, stability, and development.

However, the recommendations were not implemented before Jonathan left office in 2015.

The event was attended by prominent Nigerians, including former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon; former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio; and former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili.
