A Civil Society activist Safiyya Ibn Garba, DTRF, Founder and the Programme Director of the Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative (EWEI) has received a prestigious 2022 World of Difference Award from The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) for her contribution in the Non-Profit/NGO category.
TIAW is a global charitable foundation dedicated to the economic empowerment and advancement of women all over the globe.
The TIAW World of Difference Awards recognize extraordinary women and men from around the world who have contributed to the economic empowerment of women, across a range of award categories.
Commemorating the award, Mr. Uche Brown Egbe, Senior Programme Officer – Communications of EWEI, in a Press statement released to newmen in Kaduna, reported Ibn Garba to have received the award with happiness.
“It is always such an honor to be recognized for the hard work being done every day by my team and I to make a difference in the quality of life of girls and women especially within the very difficult circumstances post-pandemic and in the fragility that we find ourselves as a country and globally. In 14 years, we have engaged 651 direct girl and women beneficiaries in economic empowerment activities in Nigeria, and more than 300,000 beneficiaries collectively through onsite and online activities across multiple interventions,” Safiyya has said.
She added that the award is a call to do more, and thanked TIAW for recognizing her.
“Finally, the values and ideals of this award will spur us on to do more in response to growing needs and provide us with the visibility to garner support for work. Thank you for this exceptional award and all the motivation it renews within.”
In his part, TIAW President Donna Meredith reflected on TIAW’s focus of women’s economic empowerment.
“Following this year’s Awards event theme of ‘Restarting the World – Women Rising’ we know that once again women will be required to rise to the challenges (seen and unforeseen) that face them in this changed world; and that supporting their financial empowerment will assist them to rise.”
The 2022 year’s awards in which Safiyya has featured, came from across the globe, including some from: Australia, Cameroon, Greece, Ukraine, Egypt, India, Israel, and the United States of America.
TIAW seeks to unite and support women and their associations around the world, leveraging their ideas and their strengths to develop and implement programs for the advancement and economic empowerment of women around the world.
