The Federal Government has said a total of 979 people died as a result of strange illnesses in Kano State over a five-week period.

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, stated this on Monday in Abuja during a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

He said an investigation carried out by the special team sent to the state revealed that 50 to 60 per cent of the deaths were associated with coronavirus.

Ehanire explained that most of the fatalities were over 65 years old.

He said the verbal autopsy revealed that about 56 percent of the deaths occurred at home while 38 percent were in the hospital.
