The Federal Government will, through the Agro-Processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support project to give 600 billion naira as loans to support 2.4 million farmers across the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed this in Abuja yesterday at the opening of the National Agricultural Show/Exhibition of the 2021 World Food Day.
President Buhari, represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohammed Abubakar, said the loan had zero interest.
On his part, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, said Buhari’s administration had initiated programmes and policies on agricultural development and food security in the country.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday solicited the United Nations Development Programme’s intervention in the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons in the Northeast.
He spoke at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving Head of the United Nations Development Programme Regional Bureau for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa.
Buhari said the United Nations Development Programme deserved accolades for the assistance it had so far rendered to Nigeria in diverse ways, particularly in stabilizing the Northeast.
He said his government was doing its best to rehabilitate Internally Displaced Persons and return them to their ancestral homes, but noted that with meagre resources, assistance from bodies like the United Nations Development Programme would come in handy.
He thanked Nigerian-born Eziakonwa for her official visit, noting that herself, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of the World Trade Organization, and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, were some of the women doing Nigeria proud internationally.
