The senate today confirmed the appointment of Major General Faruk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff.
The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the joint committee on Defence and Army led by senators Aliyu Wamakko and Ali Ndume.
Chairman of the Joint Committee, Senator Aliyu Wamakko in his presentation said the Committee was satisfied with the comprehensive and robust nature of the engagement and interactions with the nominee during the screening exercise.
He disclosed that the Committee did not receive any petitions on the nominee and he was cleared by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
President Buhari had, earlier in the month, asked the Senate to confirm Yahaya, who was appointed after the demise of former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.
The late chief of army staff died in a plane crash near the Kaduna International Airport last month.
