Nasarawa Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA), Friday, kick-started sensitisation of women on the importance of family planning in order to mitigate unplanned pregnancies and mortalities winch results to unsafe abortion in the society.

Loveth Sunday, a mother of three at the Nasarawa Eggon Primary health care centre in Nasarawa state said she has been into an implant method of family planning for years and it gives her good result without any hitch.

She revealed this in an interview with Blueprint during a media advocacy field trip to primary health care centres organised by Centre for Development Communication (DevCom) and The Challenge Initiative( (TCI) in collaboration with NPHDA.

She said since she subscribed to it, she had been able to control her pregnancies and had never experienced side effects aside the back pain which led her to take pain relieve and continued her normal businesses.

She said aside the child spacing, the services have also improved on her health condition.

“The method I used is effective, I have seen the result without any problem,” Loveth said.

She therefore, encouraged other women to visit any healthcare facility centre to access family planning in order to improve their health status.

She also appealed to government at all levels to employ more health workers considering the people coming to access services in order to reduce conjestion.

Deputy Officer in Charge (OIC) of Nasarawa Eggon Primary Healthcare Centre Gloria Amos said the number of clients that besiege the facility was quite impressive.

“I can say the level of accessibilty to family planning in this facility is about 70%.

“Before their husbands use to stop them from accessing family planning due to lack of good knowledge its usefulness but now they are adequately informed on the importance and need for family planning. They even come and access it together with their husbands.

“Manpower is the challenge that we are facing, we don’t have enough and it makes us over work ourselves. One person will be working at the family planning unit and will also be seeing out patients which is not good.

On availability of working materials, Gloria said, “We have never run out of commodity at this health facility. Before you run out of commodity, you write and they will supply you with enough. I think we don’t have that problem here.”
