
The Office of the National Secueitu Adviser, in a short documentary, stated that from January 2025, 500 containers of Tramadol and other dangerous substances have been uncovered at Nigerian ports and markets and destroyed.
In a committee established by the ONSA, which includes representatives from NAFDAC, the Army, the Police, and the NSCDC has launched an initiative aimed at combating counterfeit medications starting in January 2025. This effort has successfully resulted in the discovery and destruction of 500 containers of Tramadol and other hazardous substances at various Nigerian ports and markets.
The ONSA stated that as the production and sale of fake drugs have become a major challenge in Nigeria, the recent instances of dismantling fake drug sites in Anambra and Lagos have been in the news. These actions are the result of strategic interventions and coordination by the NSA, in collaboration with the joint forces of NAFDAC, the Army, Police, and NSCDC, all coordinated by the ONSA to combat the issue of drugs.
The ONSA has reported that Nigeria is making significant progress in the battle against counterfeit medications, reminiscent of the achievements seen during Dora Akunyili’s tenure. Added that the success are commendable, and there is a collective hope among Nigerians for continued efforts in this vital area.
