Emirates excludes Boeing 787-10 from its future fleet plans

The Boeing 787-10 is no longer included in Emirates’ future fleet plans. It was revealed during the presentation of the airline’s quarterly results.

During the presentation of quarterly figures, the Gulf carrier did not mention the Boeing787-10 while introducing its future fleet structure.

In 2017, the Gulf carrier had signed a letter of intent for 40 Boeing 787-10 with the American aircraft manufacturer, but never converted it into a firm order.

At the beginning of this year, Emirates replaced a large part of its Airbus A380 order with the Airbus’s new generation widebody jets (30 Airbus A350-900, and 40 Airbus A330-900).

With the arrival of those aircraft, which can carry as many passengers as the Boeing 787-10, the order for additional Dreamliners from Boeing apparently becomes unnecessary for the airline.

It seems that Boeing is considerably disadvantaged by the European manufacturer’s decision to stop the A380 production. Boeing lost around 6 billion dollars from a potential 787-10 order of 40 planes.

In addition to the 30 Airbus A350 and 40 A330-900, Emirates also has 14 A380, 115 Boeing 777-9, and 35 777-8 in its order book. In total, 234 new aircraft will be added to the Gulf giant’s fleet in the coming years.
