The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, on Thursday, led deeply spiritual and emotional special prayer sessions in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Organised under the auspices of the Damaturu Emirate Council, the session brought together hundreds of Islamic scholars, traditional titleholders, and members of the public to seek Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for the departed elder statesman.
The Emir, who is also the Amirul Muminin of the Emirate, called on all District Heads, Village Heads, Ward Heads, senior and junior traditional titleholders, Ulama, sons and daughters of the Emirate, and well-wishers that attended the event, to make prayers aimed at invoking Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest to the former President.
The prayer session was in line with the directive of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, who declared a public holiday to enable citizens across the state to participate in special prayers and mourning activities for the late President.
Governor Buni’s gesture was widely applauded as a mark of honour, loyalty, and deep respect for the former Nigerian leader.
During the event, scholars recited various verses from the Holy Qur’an and offered fervent supplications for late former President Buhari, describing him as a leader who lived a life of service, discipline, and devotion to the nation.
In his remarks, the Emir paid glowing tribute to the late President, praising his humility, incorruptibility, and contributions to Nigeria’s development.
He also commended Governor Buni for providing leadership and ensuring that the state joined the nation in mourning Buhari with dignity and reverence.
The special Du’ah session in Damaturu stands as a reflection of the collective grief and admiration for a man whose name has become synonymous with integrity and patriotism in Nigerian history.
