The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a strong statement refuting allegations made against Nigeria and other member states.

In a statement released on December 26, 2024, ECOWAS firmly stood by Nigeria by highlighting the country’s long history of supporting peace and security in the West African region and beyond.
The recent successes of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), led by Nigeria, were cited as evidence of the country’s commitment to regional stability.
ECOWAS noted that it cannot be considered a state-sponsor of terrorism, given its generous contributions to peace efforts.
The Commission urged all states in the region to prioritize dialogue and stability, refraining from making unsubstantiated accusations.
This statement comes in the wake of accusations made by the military leader of Niger, Tchiani, who alleged that Nigeria was working in collaboration with France to attack Niger Republic.
ECOWAS’s response aims to counter these claims and reaffirm its support for Nigeria.
