The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called on Nigerians to report rape cases to the appropriate authority for proper investigations and prosecution.
The Director General of the agency, Mrs Julie Okah-Donli made the call on Monday, adding that rape is a crime, and like all crimes it should be reported without fear or favour.”Under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, NAPTIP is mandated to investigate and prosecute cases of rape in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“If you are a victim of rape, do not be ashamed, it is not your fault. Speak out, report, and NAPTIP will ensure that justice is served.” She added.
Mrs. Okoh-Donli further warned against sexual violence on women and minors, saying offenders should desist from the act or face stiff punishment.
