The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, have made an important visit to the 8 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Sokoto.

Upon their arrival, they were received by Brigadier General Ajose, the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division and the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Hadarin Daji.

This visit is a direct response to the worsening security situation in Sokoto State, which has recently been plagued by a surge in deadly bandit attacks.

The primary objective of the delegation is to evaluate the security conditions on the ground, strengthen the operational capabilities of the troops, and boost their morale in the face of these ongoing challenges.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the defence leadership to relocate to Sokoto, underscoring the urgency of addressing the escalating violence that has made Sokoto and its neighboring states hotspots for banditry and terrorism.

Further announcements regarding the visit’s outcomes and additional strategies to tackle the region’s security issues are anticipated shortly.
