A Kano High Court, presided over by Justice Usman Malam Naabba, has issued a restraining order preventing the Federal Government from constructing a railway on land located in the Kuyan Ta Inna layout, Kano.
The court order, delivered on Thursday, October 17th, was in response to a request from the applicants seeking to stop the authorities from trespassing on or taking over their properties for railway construction until the court hears the motion on notice.
Speaking to reporters after the court session, counsel for the applicants, Barrister Umar Usman Dan Baito, explained that the court granted their request to prevent the respondents from interfering with the applicants’ peaceful possession of their properties.
The case has been adjourned to November 18, 2024.
The defendants in the suit include the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the Department of State Security Services, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and a businessman.
Barrister Dan Baito also noted that the applicants involved in the case number 75.
