President Muhammadu Buhari expressed shock over Army chief Ibrahim Attahiru’s death and other military officers, pledging that the departed would not die in vain.
In a statement published by his Special Adviser Femi Adesina, President Buhari said he is deeply saddened over the air crash that claimed the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers.
The President has condoled with the families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.
The President said the crash is a big blow to the country at a time when Nigerian armed forces are poised to end the security challenges facing the country.
Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and the other military officers died in a plane crash yesterday on an official visit to Kaduna state.
More Nigerians have been reacting to the death of the army chief and others in Friday’s plane crash.
The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, described as a rude shock the death of Attahiru, barely four months in the saddle.
Magashi said that the mishap that claimed the lives of the Chief of Army Staff, alongside others senior officers and his aides, represents a huge national disaster.
Magashi stated this in a statement today by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadir, in Abuja.
He condoled President Muhammadu Buhari, the military and the Nigerian Army in particular as well as his immediate family and Nigeria in general.
Magashi described late Attahiru as a gallant, dogged, disciplined and dedicated senior officer who died in the line of duty to his fatherland.
Similarly, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has described the tragic death of the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military officers in an aircraft crash yesterday as a national disaster of immense proportion.
Lawan, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ola Awoniyi, late yesterday night, lamented that the unfortunate development has thrown the entire nation into mourning.
Also, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, who is also the Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ali Ndume has today described the death of the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 others, as shocking.
The Senator, in a statement personally signed by him, lamented that the late gallant general died at a time when the nation was looking up to him to effectively provide the necessary leadership that would eliminate insurgency and other forms of criminality in Nigeria.
